Raskolnikov's Living Environment (Unity Project)
Raskolnikov's Living Environment is a creative project
I independently designed for my Russian Novel class at the University of Chicago in March 2021.
In navigating through the scene, the player assumes the perspective of
Raskolnikov, the protagonist of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, and explores
his small attic room and the apartment building to which the room
belongs. The project probes the spatiality of the novel as well as the spatial relationships of the objects that subconsciously
influence Raskolnikov, since the specific layout of the
environment either directly affects the mental conditions of the neurotic protagonist
or facilitates fateful encounters that lead him closer to the actuality of his
crime.
